Honor Kim Ledbetter’s Legacy. Support a Student in Need.
The Kim Ledbetter Memorial Endowed Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Kim Ledbetter, former Director of Financial Aid and Veteran’s Affairs at McDowell Technical Community College. Kim devoted her career to helping students navigate financial challenges and believed deeply that hardship should never prevent someone from pursuing an education.
Established in 2022 by her husband, David Ledbetter, and colleague Rev. Don Ford, the scholarship reached endowed status in 2026. Endowed scholarships are invested to provide annual awards in perpetuity, ensuring Kim’s compassion and advocacy for students will continue for generations.
The scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming freshman who is a single parent with significant financial need. Funds help cover tuition, fees, textbooks, and other financial needs during the student’s first semester, easing a critical barrier at the moment when support matters most. Preference is given to students in Social and Human Services, though eligible students in other programs may be considered.
By giving to this scholarship, you are helping a student take their first step—and ensuring Kim Ledbetter’s legacy of kindness, service, and student support lives on.
